The Christmas Tree recitation

The Christmas Tree

Ages: For 8 preschool kids and a teacher

Props: Kids may wear cardboard boxes with Christmas trees cut from green poster board glued to the front. You could also cut out trees using stiff flannel type material on the fold, and cut a hole in the middle to drop over their heads. Place a fake or real tree on each side of the children where they will be standing.

Teacher: Many years ago there was a lonely tree standing out in the deep forest.

Child 1: Jesus was there!

Teacher: Every day, the tree would watch and wait - hoping for someone to come along and talk with him.

Child 2: Jesus will listen!

Teacher: One day, the tree heard some men were coming to the forest to see what they could find for a special project they were making.

Child 3: Jesus saw the men!

Teacher: They looked at this tall skinny tree and decided this would do for the project they needed to make. So, they cut the tree down and hauled it away.

Child 4: Jesus went, too!

Teacher: They cut, sawed, sanded, stained, and polished the finished project. They were satisfied with what they had made, and set it up in the shop window for someone to purchase.

Child 5: Maybe, Jesus would like it.

Teacher: Along came some merchants who liked the beautiful project – a lovely manger. They purchased it and took it to use for their animals in big barn.

Child 6: Jesus would find it!

Teacher: One day, along came a man named Joseph and his wife, Mary were seeking a place to sleep for the night. She was with child. The man who owned the barn said they could sleep in the stable.

Child 7: Jesus would rest!

Teacher: That night, the woman, Mary had her baby and called him Jesus. He was wrapped in cloths and laid in the lovely manger that the carpenters had made.

Child 8: Jesus was born!

Teacher: Thank, you God, for your Son, Jesus who came to save the world.

All Children: Thank, you Jesus!
