Unit 2 God Made My Sister

Toddler & Preschool Curriculum

Unit 2 Lesson 6

God Made My Sister

To the Teacher: Begin your planning and preparation with prayer. A letter has been provided for you to send home with the children to share with their parents what is happening in Sunday school, and for review. Arrive early to set things up, relax, breathe, take a moment in prayer, and be present when parents arrive with their children.

Preparation - Read Genesis 4 (Adam and Eve have children and the trouble between their children)

Materials needed:  Family puppets will be needed for this Unit of lessons.

Schedule & Lesson

Free time (10 minutes) Greet parents with a smile and welcome their child by greeting. Make parents feel assured to leave their child in the Toddler/Preschool room. Make sure all toys are sanitized weekly and ready to play with. You may want to set out some dolls (both gender) if possible.

Prayer & Snack (10 minutes) Kids should wash their hands and sit down at the table. They should drink from a small cup, and use a napkin. Pray a simple short pray before eating. Establish this so they learn good habits and manners.

Review Music (5 minutes) God Made Mommy

God Made Mommy

(Tune: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean)

God gave me my mommy who loves me

God made her so kind and so wise,

She’s there to take care and to love me,

To read me God’s Word every day.

I will obey her and do what she tells me to do – oh yes (clap 2x on last two words)

I will obey her and do what she tells me to do.

God Made My Sister

He made her so sweet and so kind, (big smile)

She’s there to play games and have fun with, (jump up and down)

I will love her and get along with her too – oh yes (clap 2x on last two words)

I will love her and get along with her too – oh yes (clap 2x on last two words)

Lesson Time (5-10 minutes) Use good expression for the kids and make it exciting.

Teacher: In the beginning, God created a man, whom He called Adam. When Adam was sleeping, God took a rib from him and made a woman. Her name was Eve. God loved them and gave them a lovely garden to live in. Since they disobeyed God, they had to leave their Garden home and live in a new place. Later, God gave them some children.

Do you have a baby sister? (Allow time to share) If you do, God gave you your sister to live in your home. He wants you to help take care of her so she will be happy and learn to trust people. She may need a diaper changed, (Smelly) a warm bottle, (yummy) and a bath (fun). You can help your mom or dad take care of her so that all her needs are met.

You may have an older sister. She may even take care of you sometimes. She loves you and wants to get along with you. You may need to help her pick up the toys so no one gets hurt if they were to trip over them. That would be sad! She may need you to be quiet some time so she can study her schoolwork. God gave all your family a home where you can sleep, food to eat, and a nice big bathtub to take a bath, toys to have fun and play with, and a love for each other.

Puppet Skit (Teacher plays the role as Mom. Puppet is the sister)

Teacher: Hi sweetie!

Sister: Can I have a cookie?

Teacher: Yes, but first I need you to pick up your toys.

Sister: I want to play.

Teacher: That is fine. When you decide you want a cookie, please put away your toys. Ok?

Sister: I want a cookie.

Teacher: I was thinking about making some more chocolate chip cookies. Does that sound good?

Sister: I want a cookie now!

Teacher: Mmmm! I am afraid you will need to pick up your toys first. Why don’t I help you with that so we can get it done right away.

Sister: (Howls) I wannnnnna a cookie, I wannn a cookie!

Teacher: I love you, and God loves you, but it time to clean up the toys. We can do it together or you can take some time out to think about this.

Sister: Will you help me?

Teacher: I will be glad too. Come on… let’s put the blocks in this basket here first.

Sister: May I have some cookies now?

Teacher: Yes, you may..what about some milk?

Sister: I love you, mommy! I am glad that you are my mom! (Exit)

Music: Let’s sing out songs again.
