Step 10: How Do You Know You Are Called

Easy Basic Steps on How to Be a Good Worship Leader

Step 10: How Do You Know You Are Called

Prayer is the number one key on how to be a Good Worship Leader. Our second step was Evaluation of our congregation. The third step was Selecting a Team the fourth step was about making Good Transitions. The fifth step shares How to Introduce New Music, the 6th step is Learning from our Mistakes, the 7th step is suggestions for the Order of Worship, the 8th step is about Working With Difficult People, 9th step provides suggestions for Selecting Music, and step 10 is “How Do You Know You Are Called?”

How do you know you are called to be a Worship Pastor, Leader, or Director? God does not call anyone whom He does not equip. There are those who desire to do a ministry that after trying it for a year or so, find that they are not a good fit. They become weary, face burn-out because things did not go well, and try another ministry. This is NOT a call from God.

Confirmed by Others

There are some reasons that I believe you may know if you are called of God to serve in a particular ministry. You will be confirmed by others in the church. They may notice your gifts and comment on what a blessing you are to them. Your pastor may ask if you have thought about what God wants you to do and share how your ministry is a real blessing to the church. God will help you in ways that you never imagined He could in this ministry. You will sense His presence and the help of the Holy Spirit. You will feel His peace in what you are doing.

Urge and Drawing within the soul

Another way to determine if God has called you is the deep drawing inside placed by the Holy Spirit that you must do this to fulfill your destiny for Him. You will feel this urge stronger and it will not leave you. You may try to bury it, ignore it, think you do not have time for it, worry about what others will think, but this urge will NOT leave you. It may go way for a short time, but will return. This drawing is so deep within you and the urge may be overwhelming at times, that you will feel you must do it or you will be miserable.

Gifted in this area

God is not going to call you if you have no talent in this area. He gives us talents and gifts and each individual is equipped in different areas. Your area may be music. You not only have been told how you are a blessing to others, but have an ability to sing, possibly play and instrument, and lead others.

You may fulfill this calling or ignore it. However, you will never feel fully satisfied if you do not respond to this call. You may try other areas of ministry, but you will know deep inside that you are not in the right area. It will not feel right. There will not be a fulfillment.

Pray about how God wants you to serve and where. He will open doors for you if you are seeking His will and preparing yourself. Sometimes, God will use time that you feel is wasted, to better prepare you for when it is the right timing. There may be some rough edges that you need work on. You may need some pruning spiritually that God knows will hinder you if He places you in a position prematurely. Talk to your pastor and seek his/her advice.

I hope this is helpful to you; God bless you as you seek His will. He will never leave you nor forsake you. When you get discouraged, He is there. When you feel like quitting, He is there. He understands how you feel and will make a way. Continue to trust Him, and be patient. Do what he has placed in front of you for the time being. Take advantage of every opportunity to serve in music that comes available. Use your talents at the hospital or nursing home. God will confirm you each step along the way. Trust Him!
