Mustard Seed Faith

Mustard Seed Faith

He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this Mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. (Luke 17:6)

A family was visiting their son who was having medical issues being a diabetic. The mother expressed concern and wanted the chaplain to talk with her son. She suggested that she and her husband leave in hopes that her son would open up with the chaplain. Since the patient would not say anything, I tried to initiate the conversation to help him share. He finally spoke after a while and expressed his hurt that he felt toward his family because they would get mad at him over his sugar problem. He had difficulty sleeping, and someone had thrown away his sleeping medication. He did not seem to have a grip on how to manage menus with his medical condition.

Realizing that it is importance to share with others our concerns, I asked him if he thought it would be helpful to share with his family his feelings, and maybe he could share with the doctor about the medication for sleeping. The young man seemed open to the suggestions; however, he did not seem to have faith that his parents would be open to what he had to say. Hopefully, he was left with a little faith in his situation.

Even faith the size of a mustard seed is all we need to make changes in our lives. God will give us courage to do what we need to do. –
