God Our Stronghold

 

 

The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him. (Nahum 1:7)

There was a large group of family and friends in the waiting room of a patient who had just been taken off the ventilator. Although I spoke to various ones, one member of the group spoke alone to me expressing her concern that the patient was not ready to die. She was really hoping that I would have an opportunity to talk with her about her spiritual condition; I agreed to visit the patient. When I went into the patient’s room, I noticed she was alert and aware of her surroundings. After introducing myself, and briefly talking, I asked her if she had peace with God, She said she did not have peace with God. I asked her if she would like to pray. She said she would like that. I then asked her to repeat a Salvation prayer after me which she did; she said she felt better. It is a privilege to assist patients when they express a desire to pray. Working in a faith based hospital allows the patient to not only have the physical help they need, but provides for their emotional and spiritual needs as well. God is ever present! We can take refuge in Him when family members and patients need something to hold on to in times of physical and spiritual distress. He understands all about us and is our Support and Strength in trouble.
