King David & Young Man

King David: “This wilderness has no food for a man.”

Young Man: "You can say that again!” “What do you want me to do, Sir”?

King David: “Hmmmm…..it must be a wealthy man who lives down there in that valley.”

Young Man: “He must have lots of cattle for food. That sounds real good right now. A good hamburger – roasted over some fire. Mmmmm good!”

King David: “Go down there and ask who lives there and say, “You will have a long life and good health will all be yours.” Tell them we need some help.”

Young Man: “Yes, Sir!” (Salutes)

Young Man & Servant

Young Man: “Hey there!”

Servant: “What do you want, and why are you on our property”?

Young Man: “Who is your master”?

Servant: “His name is Nabal. He isn’t the best master one could have.”

Young Man: “What do you mean by that”?

Servant: “He is mean and selfish. He is not kind.”

Young Man: “Hmmm. Tell him this message”, ‘You will have a long life and good health will all be yours.’

Servant: “What’s he got to do for that”?

Young Man: “Tell your master that we know it is time for sheering the sheep. When your servants were with us we treated them very kind. We did not steal anything from them either.”

Servant: “You’d better not have!”

Young Man: “We need some provisions from you for our men who are hungry.”

Servant: “You think Nabal will help you”? (Laughs) “Ha! Ha! He helps no one.”

Young Man: “Will you give him the message”?

Servant: “Sure thing!”

Young Man: “I’ll wait here for you as you go.”

Servant & Nabal

Servant: “Sir, Nabal, Sir” (Salutes)

Nabal: “What do you want this time”? “Didn’t I just see your face this morning”? “Can’t you let me get any peace of mind around here”?

Servant: “Sir, I have a message for you.”

Nabal: “A message……..what do you mean a message. I do not have any business to take care of and especially not today. It is my day off.”

Servant: “This is important!”

Nabal: “Nothing is I important right now…now get out of here!”

Servant: “Sir, David needs some food for his men. They were the men who were kind to our men.”

Nabal: “Ha! You are kidding! Who is David? He means nothing to me! Tell that rascal to go and find his own food. Why should I take my bread and water to feed them; I do not know where they came from. And that is not my concern. Now get out of here.”

Young Man: “Kind David, I am afraid I have bad news.”

King David: “What is it son?”

Young Man: “This Nabal was unkind. He said he will not help at all.”

King David: “Go tell all my men to round up their swords. We have a job to do.”

Young Man: “Yes, Sir. I will tell them now.”

Servant: “He was up to no good.”

Abigail: “What do you mean?”

Servant: “They wanted food. Nabal does not want to feed the whole world. He thinks they are beggars. Nabal insulted him.”

Abigail: “Who wanted this food?”

Servant: “Some man by the name of David, Son of Jesse. They treated us kindly one time.”

Servant: “Now what?”

King David, Young Man & Abigail

King David: “Are all the men ready?”

Young Man: “Yes, Sir…they are ready.”

King David: “Let’s go ahead and scout this out some.”

Young Man: “Who is that coming?”

King David: “It looks like a woman. Who is she?”

Young Man: “I think it is Nabal’s wife. She sure is pretty.”

Abigail: (Carrying a large basket with bread and water bottles)

Abigail: (Bows to the ground) “Please forgive your servant, my Lord. Let me speak in your ears this day. Nabal is a wicked man and unkind. He should never have said what he did to your servant. I did not know about it until now. He has been a fool! Please accept this gift and forgive your servant for his wrong. This is for you and all your men. There will be plenty provided for them all. I assure you this.”

Young Man: “Here…let me help you with that basket.” (Takes the basket)

King David: “Praise be to God who sent you here to me today. May God richly bless you for your kindness this day to all my men. God has given you good judgment.”

Abigail: “Please my Lord, remember your servant when God brings success to you.”

King David: “Go home in peace. I have heard your request and it will be granted. God bless you!”
