Who's at the Door
Characters: Mom (teenager), Johnny (child), Church Person (adults or teenager)
Costumes: Suggest unique or silly hats, and a towel for mom
Mom: Get the door!
Johnny: What did you say?
Mom: Get the door! No, don't open it. Just see who it is. Hurry, it may be my package that I ordered.
Johnny: You ordered me that new Nintendo game?
Mom: No! Get the door! Hurry!
Johnny: Alright.........why is it my job to get the door....you can wash your hair anytime.
Mom: Who is it?
Johnny: I don't know, I haven't got to the door yet.
Mom: What are you taking so long for?
Johnny: I have to put on my socks.
Mom: To go to the door? I am sure they are gone by now. I really need that package. They have delivered it three times already.
Johnny; Ok, here goes. Anybody there? You want my mom? .......No....... I think church is boring.. ..............I go because my parents go. No............ we don't have a bible in every room. We have a TV in every room................... What did you say? Do I read them? The TV? I watch it every day. I read my bible once a week on Sunday................... Am I saved? Yes, my mom rescued me last week when I fell off my bike. Man, I landed some slide. You should have seen me. There was mud everywhere; it had rained that morning.
Mom: Who are you talking to? Are you talking to some stranger? Did you let him in the house? I am coming.................Shut that door quickly. Did you let them in the house? I told you a thousand times not to let strangers in the house unless I am home.
Johnny: Well you are home and no, I didn't let any stranger in the house, and he is standing out in the sun - so do I let him in now? He wanted to know if we attend church, and if we have a TV in every room, and if I like church and...........
Mom: You told him?
Johnny: Told him what?
Mom: Told him we attended church last Easter? We belong to the First Presbyterian. I don't think they have church all the time, at least I only see about 10 cars there once in a while when I go by on Wednesday evenings.
Johnny: Here's my mom, she knows all the answers about church and Bibles. She reads the newspaper every day and the comics.
Mom: Oh hello, sir, did my son tell you we attend church already? What! Am I saved? What do you mean am I saved? I was baptized when I was born and went to church every single Sunday for my first nine years of life. Then, I married a board member of the church and we lived happy after....I mean happily serving others. We used to go to Bingo once a week, never missed a Chili dinner (my husband's favorite especially if it has kidney beans in it, always sat once a month in the church nursery with all those whiney kids, gave to missions once every quarter, gave offerings for the kids trip to Disney, and.....................what did you say? Am I saved?
Church Person: Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior?
Mom: I have known Jesus since I was born, or at least when I started to talk.
Church Persons: Does he save you right now? We are all born sinners in need of a Savor.
Mom: My mom always used to say. "You were born with a smile on your face, and doing good"
Church Person: We are not saved by our works. There isn't anything that we can do to be saved.
Mom: You mean there is nothing that I can do to be saved. Then how can anyone be saved?
Church Person: Jesus died on the cross in order that we might be forgiven from all our sin. You see, we were born with a heart that was sinful. It is only through the blood of Jesus that our hearts can be forgiven from our sin and made clean.
Mom: I never thought that I had a dirty heart. I keep such a clean house, so, you are saying that my heart is dirty?
Church Person: God's Word says, For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard (Romans 3:23 NLT). But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. (I John 1:9 NLT) Mom: Just like that?
Church Person: Just like that, God is no respecter of person. He will save all. He came to save the whole world. He gave his life for you in order that you may not only be forgiven, but have a home in heaven someday.
Mom: Well..........I will think about it.
Church Person: Today, if you will hear His voice,
Mom: How do I get saved?
Church: For "Whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved (Romans 10:13 NKJV).Admit you have sinned. Confess that sin, and ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you. You can trust him to save you for he has given us His Word. "Confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, believe in thy heart that God has raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved."
Mom: I think I would like to do that. Sometime I feel so empty and tired of all the business of life. It does seem fulfilling most of the time, but maybe this will give me what I need.
Church Person: You can repeat my prayer or prayer after me.
Church Person: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me[has everlasting life (John 6:47 NKJV).Now Christ will help you to grow as you read your Bible and talk to him daily. He will direct you. Why don't you attend our services on Sunday evenings for classes for new believers in Christ? Would you like to do that?
Mom: I will think about it. I do believe that I am forgiven. Thank you so much for sharing Christ with me today. I know that this will makes things easier for me knowing that He will help.
Church Person: He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. We can depend on that!
