Being A Missionary Helper
Big Idea: We must walk what we talk in order to help others
Bible Verse: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News!" Romans 10:15
Materials: Signs of posters with these words: show it, know it; sow it, grow it; live it, give it; see it, believe it; walk it, talk it. Package of seeds, picture of an ice-cream dessert,
Easter Music Selections: God's Kids Worship: A Basket of Easter Songs, Split-Track DVD (any songs from DVD www.godskidsworship.com ). An additional song is attached at end of this lesson.
Message: Show it & Know it (sign) Have you ever seen something on display that you wanted so badly that you could have almost tasted it? If you have ever gone into the dairy Queen, you may see yummy, delicious pictures of various desserts you can select from in which to order. You will see hot fudge sundaes, bananas splits, hot dogs, peanut buster parfaits (my favorite - rub tummy) and many more. If we can see what we want, we may make a better choice of what to select. When we read God's Word we have a better idea of how He wants us to live. We learn to understand and know more and more of the ways he wants us to exhibit the Fruits of the Sprits - Love, Joy, Peace, Patient, Kindness, Goodness, Faith, Gentleness, Meekness, and Self-control. Ouch! Some of those hurt!
Sow it & Grow it (sign) There was a tiny seed that fell out of the apron of a sower one day. The tiny seed landed on a hard rock. "Ouch", said the tiny seed. "This hurts". A wind came along and the tiny seed managed to blow in the wind and fall on some thorny ground. "Ouch", said the tiny seed. "This hurts". The next day it rained so hard that the tiny seed fell through the thorny branch and rolled down into a mud slide. "Whee", said the tiny seed, this is fun!" The seed lay there as the sun came out and beat hot upon it. "Ouch", said the tiny seed. "It's too hot" The farmer's son came along kicking at the dirt and some of the dirt fell over the tiny seed. "It's dark", said the tiny seed. Pretty soon the seed rose above the ground and a nice plant stood in its place. The plant grew and it became a beautiful tomato plant. The plant produced beautiful nice red tomatoes. One day, the famer came out and saw the beautiful tomato plant, "Hmmm, those tomatoes looks pretty good. I will take them for our church chili dinner we are having for the community families. They will really enjoy these tomatoes in the chili. And this is what the farmer did. There were many people who commented on how delicious the chili tasted with the nice tomatoes all cut up in it. They were satisfied and content.
Whatever we sow is what we will reap. If we sow good seeds, we will reap good seeds. If we sow kindness, we will reap kindness. If we sow anger, we will reap anger.
Live it & Give it (sign) God wants each one of us to live a life that betrays who He is - kind, merciful, meek, loving, patient, good, faithful, and joyful. As we give of ourselves to others this way, we will produce more and more of the love of God in our life. If we are selfish and hold onto God's goodness, we will miss out on many blessings. God's blessings that He gives to us are to be passed along to others. If the farmer had decided to keep the tomatoes all to himself, would anyone else have benefited from the tomatoes?
See it & Believe it (sign) What would have happened if the seed had lay on the ground day after day? Would anyone have ever believed it would become such a beautiful tomato plant? Some would have said, I'll believe it when I see it. Have you ever thought something like that before? People need to see Jesus in our lives. They need to see how He works on our lives; they need to hear about how He has helped us with our problems, our homework, our test, our sickness, and our fears.
Walk it & Talk it (sign) How do we get them to believe us? We get them to believe us if we walk what we talk. Now that sounds like a riddle. Walk what we talk. When someone is sad, give them an encouraging word; when someone is sick, send them a card; when someone is having trouble understanding math, help them if you know it; when someone has lost a family member or a cat or dog, let them know you are sorry; when your mom needs help with the housework, offer to help without being asked to do it; when your dad is tired, offer him a cool back rub; when your teacher is upset, ask her if there is anything she would like you to help her with today. You can probably think of more ways in which you can walk what you talk. When we talk about Jesus, we need to be acting like him at home, at school, in our neighborhood, and even at church. If Jesus saves you now, you can thank Him and ask Him to help you grow in sharing the Gospel.
Small Group or Large Group Discussion Questions:
Message Application Game Cut out extra large feet using card stock that kids can walk on. Write on the feet the words from this lesson: (1) Walk it, (2) Talk it, (3) Know it, (4) Grow it, (5) Live it, (6) Give it. Have the kids walk on the letters and see how far they can go before they have to stop. As they step on each foot, they need to share how this can be applied in their own life. Try not to let them say the same words over and over. Place a basket full of Easter candy at the end of the trail. If they make it to the end, they are allowed to select a piece of candy.
Bible Memory Game Have everyone take off one of their shoes and place in a large pile. Have them all close their eyes. Take away one of the shoes. When you say "Feet" they are to find their shoe and put it on. The one who cannot find their shoe is to say the verse three times. Do this several times. All say the verse as they stand on one foot. Say again as they stand on the other foot. Say again as they hop on one foot. Say again as they hop on the other foot. Say again as they run in place. They should all know the verse by now very well.
Closing Prayer: God, we thank you for Your Son, Jesus, who died for our sins. Help us to please you, and share your love with those around us. Guide us each day that we will see ways in which we can live out your love. Walk with us every day as we go to school, and during out times of fun with our family. May our words and actions honor you in all we do and say. Go with us throughout this week, and keep us safe as we travel. In Jesus name, Amen. Tune to Song: I've Been Working on the Railroad 1.
