Message:

Did you know that this game Monopoly (show the game) is sold in 27 countries around the world? It is printed in 15 languages. Every set has $15, 140 of play money. Every year more than $40 billion dollars of Monopoly money is printed. Wow! That sure sounds like a lot of money - doesn't it?

How many have ever seen the instruction book? (Show Monopoly instruction book). If you ever learn to play Monopoly, you need to read the instructions in order to play a good game. You will learn about how to purchase property (show cards), how to collect rent while in jail (point out the jail), and about how to mortgage property (show houses). You will learned how to make a deal with the other players, and how to run a Bank with all the money (show paper money). (Information about the game taken from the Monopoly game).

When you play the game with your friends or family, you all work together having a great time as long as you follow the instructions. If someone tries to do something that is wrong, then that may make the others unhappy. The game will not flow well, and the directions will get all mixed up. If we do not follow commands or directions, others may not want to play with us the next time.

The bible has some special instructions for us in the Lord's Prayer. Let's read this prayer together. (Show the poster board of the Lord's Prayer) This special prayer is written in over 1,200 languages. It has been read by thousands of people in over 144 countries. God gave us some instructions on how to pray in this prayer. If we follow these instructions carefully, we will have our prayers answered. We will have provision for all our daily needs. We will forgive our enemies when they treat us wrong. When we follow the instructions of this prayer, we will honor God's name and speak of it reverently. That means, we will not use his name when we get mad or hurt our big toe. We will want God's will in our live more than having our own way all the time. Rather than seeking to get what we want, we will seek God's will and what He wants. As we pray this prayer, God will help to keep us from evil and from doing things that we may regret. If we follow the instruction that God has given to us in this prayer, we will live happier lives and get along with people better.

It is like playing monopoly. If we follow the instructions, we will get along better with others. We will enjoy the game better, and learn how to play it the right way. As we carefully pray this prayer from our heart, meaning what we say, we will grow to be more like Jesus - kind toward others and tolerant when they make mistakes.

God will help you, boys and girls. If Jesus lives in your heart, He will honor this prayer and help you as you prayer. If you do not now Him today, you can. It is as simple as ABC.

Ask him into your heart by confessing your sins to him,

Believe He died for you and will forgive you,

Claim his promise and thank Him for what he has done for you today!

If Jesus saves you now, you can thank Him and continue to pray the Lord's Prayer and live it out trusting in Him to help you every day. It is a good prayer to begin our day, and to say before we go to bed at night. God gave it to us as instructions to follow in how we can learn to pray. We can always add a few more prayers for God to help us at school, protect our families, and help us love and serve Him more.

Small Group or Large Group Discussion Questions:

Directions:

You can write the questions on the back of some paper money and allow the kids to select one.

1.  What does the Lord's Prayer mean to you?

2.  Why did God give us this special prayer?

3.  How many languages is the Lord's Prayer written in?

4.  How many countries use the Lord's Prayer?

5.  Why is it important that we pray this prayer?

6.  How is the game of Monopoly like the Lord's Prayer?

Message Application Game

Write the letters MONOLOPY on the dry erase board. Ask the kids, how can we please God in using the Lord's Prayer with a word beginning with the letters of the game Monopoly? Here are some suggestions to help them if needed. Give the kids a dollar (paper money) if they give an answer. You can use more than one answer for each letter of the word Monopoly.

M= Make time to pray and be MORE like Jesus

0 = Obey God

N = Never say God's name when you get mad unless you are praying to him to help you.

0 = Obey the instruction of using the Lord's Prayer

L = Love others

O = Obey your parent and teachers

P = Pray the Lord's Prayer in the morning and evening

Y = Yield to others when playing a game

MONOLOPY: Additional Game

Set up the Monopoly Board, although you will not actually use it to play this game. These will be our instructions for a simple game of Monopoly today. Give each child about $50.00. Thus money can be placed in baggies for them in advance. Put the houses and cards in separate bowls so they will be easily accessed to select what they will need. Place the bowls on top of the monopoly game board.

Provide a basket of eggs with a question in each egg about the lesson. Allow the kids to select an egg - one at a time taking turns. Have them open and share the question in their egg one at a time. Allow them to give an answer. If they cannot answer the question, they may get help. Put a couple jelly beans in each egg.

Instructions to buying houses and property.

Each question will have a number on it. That number will be how many cards they get to buy ($5.00 each card). If they get all the cards for the same property, they can buy a house for each one at $5.00 apiece.

If inside the egg their question says,  "JAIL", they miss a turn. If their question says, "FREE PARKING", they get a bonus of $20.00.

When it is their turn, they are allowed to trade one card with another kid if they so choose. This will be their turn for that time.

Play until all questions inside the eggs have been completed. At the end of the game, have the kids count their money, and the value of their houses. Give the winner having the most money a special prize. Give all kids something to take home - a small treat.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
