ABOUT PYRAMID SNACK MARKET

Your Pyramid Snack Market will be the place where the kids will enjoy some creative snacks that they may purchase and create. Each day all four groups (PreK-K; 1-2; 3-4; 5-6) will rotate to the Market to shop for their snack. They will have 30 minutes to shop and eat. When they have completed this they may join for a game outside or in the gym. These two markets work together, and could be in close vicinity. One worker will walk your kids to the next market while one stays with those who are remaining, or who will be arriving. You will need a minimum of two leaders to run this market.

Decorations
: Cover the Market tables with colorful solid material (purple) and maybe some fringe (pink or orange) sewed around the edges. You can also take plastic tablecloths and sew on a long fringe for added decoration.  Lay out brown paper towels for napkins similar to what is used in a bathroom.  Place out brown lunch paper sacks in which the kids will use to shop with. Display a sample of each snack item displayed on boxes that are covered with colorful material on the tables. You may want to display (laminated) a few larger loafs of bread for decorations. Some drinking vessels or vases (spray painted in gold) would look nice. You may be able to take those inexpensive milk vases and spray-paint gold placing some dried items inside. Pictures of food items can be placed on walls.

Cost
: Food items for the kids to select and shop are listed below. Each item costs 300 pounds each (Equal to $1.00). Please tell your kids how this will work. They will be given a total of 300 pounds (three bills) to buy something to eat and something to drink. Each item will cost them 300 pounds. These can be computer generated. Items that go with a certain food cost the same at any other item, such as "salsa". Food items are such that they can be pre-made and set in place ready to last the entire VBS.

If they do not have time to finish eating what they purchase, they may take it home with them. Allow them choices in making decisions regarding shopping, spending their money, playing games, and if they want to take home. It is good for kids to make decisions even if they do not always make the ones that we think are best for them. They will learn within time.

Preparation
: All items should be placed in baggies or wrapped in saran wrap - whichever is most economical for you. If the kids do not eat everything, they may want to take it home with them. Put their names on the bags. Retrieve a list from the registration table leader in order to do this in advance. Snacks can be laid out in card board boxes (sizes small to large), or large straw baskets for the kids to select from. Label item to purchase. Place large cards or signs with the names of the food items on the tables. A computer is excellent to make great signs.
