She Gave All and Asked For Nothing

Grandparent's Day (September)
She Gave All and Asked For Nothing

Props: Two older kids dressed as grandpa and grandma sitting in rocking chairs. Grandma has knitting needle and yarn in her hands, and grandpa has his bible open wearing glasses.

Grandma’s hands were worn from the use of the spade,

Grandpa sat so still as every row was made.

Grandma’s feet grew tired and she walked through the rain,

Grandpa rocked in his chair listening as the drops fell down the drain.

Her fingers ached from every stitch sewed on the shirt,

Grandpa watched her sew until his eyes did hurt.

Grandma’s eyes burned as tears ran down her face,

Grandpa watched her slice the onion at an even pace.

Grandma’s shoulders stooped slightly as she hurried down the cellar,

Grandpa read his Bible and played with Old Yellow.

Grandma labored cooking over the stove so hot,

Grandpa checked his rifle and cleaned from the last target shot.

Grandma helped her children with the homework for the night,

Grandpa stretched on the couch and turned out the light.

Grandma packed the lunches for the kids the next day,

Grandpa stumbled off to bed and there he did stay.

Grandma fell into bed exhausted from her day,

Grandpa knelt down on his knees to pray.

Grandma looked our her window and saw a bright star,

Reminder her of God who was not very far.
