The Toy Store Recitation

THE TOY STORE

This is a script for younger children who find it difficult to memorize many lines during the Christmas season. They have one line to say which simplifies lots of memorization work. The children can dress as their favorite toy or movie character.

TEACHER:
It was the night before Christmas
And all through the toy store
Parents were shopping
And buying presents for their own kids.
The toys thought they should:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
The parents were so busy
With long Christmas list
Of every thing you could imagine,
To buy for all their kids.
However, the toys thought they should:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
No one said "Away in a manger,
No crib for a bed."
Instead, they talked of Santa
And how excited the kids would be.
The toys thought they should:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
Mom picked up a lovely doll
Dad admired a new toy he’d like to try,
The hours passed quickly
As more and more purchases were made.
However, the toys thought they should:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON: SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
When the store hours were gone
And it was time to close
The toys gave each other a little secret smile
When they suddenly heard the store manager lock the door for the day.
The toys decided it was time to:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
So away from the shelves they jumped
They all got busy in a flash
Wrapping presents and adding ribbons
To give to boys and girls far and near
The toys were excited for they were going to:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
They made their way out the back door
To a place not far from the toy store
Their trip was long and tiresome for them
But they were so filled with the excitement of giving.
The toys had decided it was time to:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
Up on the big church steps they climbed
And up to the door they stiffly walked
There appeared to be a light through the stained window
As they raise their hand to knock on the door,
An elderly lady answered the door with a smile on her face
And the toys decided this was the pastor and wanted to tell her their desire to:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
She reached out her arms as if to know
And in a flash the presents were in her arms,
She hung to them tightly and did a twirl that made their heads spin,
Thank you, Jesus she said for answering our prayers
For allowing these toys to share with the world
The true meaning of Christmas
So the toys wiped their tearless eyes as they said, “We just wanted to…

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:

The lives of the many shoppers were so busy
With their long Christmas lists
They seemed to have no time to remember
The true reason for the season.
So the toys had decided it was time that they:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

TEACHER:
So instead of long Christmas list and spending so much money
Let’s think of the true meaning of Christmas
In giving to others as God did so long ago for us,
When he sent His Son, Jesus as a tiny baby in order to:

CHILDREN SAY IN UNISON:
SHARE WITH OTHERS

ALL:
Merry Christmas to all! Share with others!
