ADVENT MESSAGES FOR KID'S WORSHIP
Props: Advent candle set, purple candles (3), pink candle (1), white candle (1), lighter, hats or t-shirts with words – hope, joy, peace, love, and purity. This may be used during a Kid's worship service in allowing them to participate in the Advent season. Refrain from the usage of matches for safety. This would begin 4 Sundays before Christmas Sunday.
First Sunday of Advent: HOPE
Child (lights the purple candle)
Reader 1: This purple candle represents hope. It was with anticipation that Mary and Joseph waited for baby Jesus to come. They were looking forward to seeing this new birth of a child who was to be the Savior of the World. Mary and Joseph’s wish came soon when Jesus was born in the city of Bethlehem.
Reader 2: We have hope today because Jesus is the light of the world, and because we can believe in faith that He will prepare our hearts for eternity to be with Him in heaven.
Second Sunday of Advent: PEACE
Child (lights the purple candle)
Reader 1:This second purple candle represents peace. Look at a beautiful sunset and see the peaceful scenery all due because of God’s creation. Now take a look at the beauty of a calm ocean of water on a sunny day. Imagine the silence of the night outside when the moon is full in the sky and the air is calm. Think about how calm it was that night in the fields where the shepherds were watching their flock.
Reader 2: Peace is beautiful, calm, and still. As we focus our hearts on Jesus, we can be still before him in awe of what he has done for each one of us. We can express our gratitude for the peace that He will bring to us. As we yield our hearts to him, he will bring peace to us this Christmas season. Let Jesus give you peace!
Third Sunday of Advent: LOVE
Child (lights the purple candle)
Reader 1: The third purple candle represents love. When we love something, we are devoted to it and care for it deeply. When we love God, we will worship him in our lives. The wise men found Jesus and worshiped him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They traveled far to see the Baby Jesus and worship him. Let us ask ourselves what we are willing to do for Jesus.
Reader 2: Can we give him our hearts, our time, our devotion, our talents, and our money? He wants all of us. God gave his only Son for us in order that we may be forgiven. He only asks that we give ourselves to Him. Can we do that this Christmas – for Him? Let us praise Him for all he has done!
Fourth Sunday of Advent: JOY
Child (lights the pink candle)
Reader 1: Pink reminds us of joy. Happiness is a wonderful emotion. Imagine how happy people were to hear about the new birth of Baby Jesus. The Wiseman were so happy they traveled far to see him. However, there was one person who was not happy at all. He only pretended to be happy. His name is King Herod. He was upset and wanted to find Baby Jesus so he could do away with him.
Reader 2: We can pretend to be happy, but eventually others will see that we are only pretending. Jesus gives true happiness when he fills our hearts with the joy of his salvation. We can then sing like the angels did that night so long ago – Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ the newborn King!
Fifth Sunday of Advent: PURITY
Child (lights the white candle)
Reader 1: White stands for purity. Have you played in the snow before and noticed how white it was. It is very white until it began to melt and the mud mixed with it. Jesus is the spotless Lamb of God. He never sinned for He is sinless. Imagine cleaning you room and finding dust a few minutes later. It may be difficult to clean is so perfectly. Jesus was perfect. He had no spots of sin in Him anywhere.
Reader 2: He died on the cross for us that we may be made clean inside. He will wash away our sins as far as the east is from the west. Purity is something that is clean, spotless, and transparent. We too can be honest and righteous in the way we live our lives every day. Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
