Bread from Heaven
Bread from Heaven
The Lord rained down manna from the sky, and then gave them instructions on how to eat it. They were to gather it for six days only, and on the sixth day they were to gather enough to last for Sunday. Each day they were to gather enough for that day only.
Characters: Three narrators or puppets
Narrator 1
I don’t like spinach! It tastes like grass.
Narrator 2
I have never tasted grass. What is it like?
Narrator 1
I don’t know – but this spinach is terrible!
Narrator 2
Then don’t’ eat it!
Narrator 1
I have to, or I can’t go out and play.
Narrator 2
Here, I’ll eat it for you.
Narrator 1
You will? Hey thanks!
Narrator 2:
Yuck! This stiff IS bad. What is in it?
Narrator 1
My mom puts celery in it and cooks it.
Narrator 2
No wonder it is so bad. Here let’s give it to the dog.
Narrator 1
Mom will know when the dog gets the diarrhea.
Narrator 2
Well, we are in a fix. Where’s the garbage?
Narrator 1
Under the sink. That is where we always keep it.
Narrator 2
Do you have a garbage disposal?
Narrator 1
Yeah, we do. Stuff it down here and hopefully it does not come back up.
Narrator 2
Since when do garbage disposals throw up?
Narrator 1
Well the Bible does say, “Be sure your sins will find you out.”
Narrator 2
I bet this stuff is worse than the manna the Children of Israel ate in the wilderness.
Narrator 1
Yeah, I’ve heard that story told in Sunday school before. After the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, they grumbled for some food.
Narrator 2
Well, you don’t have to worry about me grumbling for any more green spinach with celery cooked in it.
Narrator 1
The Lord rained down manna from the sky, and then gave them instructions on how to eat it.
Narrator 2
They were to gather it for six days only, and on the sixth day they were to gather enough to last for Sunday. Each day they were to gather enough for that day only.
Narrator 1
Do you remember if they followed those instructions?
Narrator 2
Some of them did not pay attention to what God had told them to do. The kept it until morning and it became full of maggots and began to smell. Moses became angry with them.
Narrator 1
God had said that there would not be any manna on Sunday; He wanted them to rest on that day.
Narrator 2
The manna was actually better than that spinach; At least it did not have any celery cooked with it.
Narrator 1
What did it taste like? Vanilla wafers?
Narrator 2
Hey those do sound good. Do you have any around here? I like them dipped in my milk. Mmmmmmmm! I am hungry.
Narrator 1
My mom goes to the store once a week and she does not buy cookies; she makes them.
Narrator 2
The manna tasted like a wafer made with honey. It was a small white coriander seed.
Narrator 1
I know the Children of Israel grumped a lot. My mom said I am like them too much and it makes her unhappy.
Narrator 2
I had a teacher one time who made us all put in a dime every time that we grumbled in class over homework. I tell you, it sure made us stop and think before we said something. We liked to use our dimes for those peppermint candy sticks that she sold on Fridays.
Narrator 1
God got tired of their grumbling.. When they grumbled for water, God told Moses to strike the rock and out would come water.
Narrator 2
That sounds good -- fresh water and honey wafers. I AM getting hungry.
Narrator 1
Come on, let’s go play with my new game I got for Christmas! It’s cool!
Narrator 1 & 2
See you later kids!
